Women’s Sportbike Rally Announces Yamaha Motor Corp., USA as Presenting Sponsor

STECOAH, N.C., August 5, 2019 – Women’s Sportbike Rally (WSR), the only female-focused sportbike road rally in the world, announced Yamaha Motor Corp., USA as Presenting sponsor for the East Rally. The partnership marks a milestone for Women’s Sportbike Rally as the event’s first Presenting sponsorship with a major motorcycle manufacturer in the organization’s 14 years of events.

The WSR East Rally is set to take place September 6 – 8, 2019 at Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge. The event is held within close proximity to some of the nation’s best motorcycling roads, including the infamous Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Foothills Parkway and Moonshiner 28. The location boasts scenic mountain views, many businesses that cater to motorcyclists, and thrilling curves.

The number of women riders has grown in recent years. According to a national survey by the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC), women make up 19 percent of motorcycle owners compared to less than 10 percent a decade ago. Among younger generations, there is even greater motorcycle ownership. As Baby Boomers are replaced with newer riders, women will become an increasingly larger motorcycle industry demographic.

The rally has seen its own growth, beginning with 35 attendees in a single location to now attracting nearly 300 riders each year with locations on both the East and West coasts.

The Yamaha Motor Corp., USA sponsorship demonstrates that leaders in the powersports industry are taking note of the growth in both the female riding demographic and the Women’s Sportbike Rally. The event offers a prime opportunity for motorsports brands to showcase their products front-and-center where women motorcyclists actively engage.

“We’re honored and thrilled to have Yamaha Motor Corp., USA as our presenting sponsor,” said Women’s Sportbike Rally National Director Brittany Morrow. “It is exciting to see such a well-known and established leader in the industry support women riders and our goals as a grass-roots organization. It shows our attendees, and all women riders, that they are valued members of the motorcycling community. We’re grateful that Yamaha is championing women. It fits with our theme for this year of ‘Ride Brave’—for women to feel empowered to ride their own motorcycle and do it well.”

As the title sponsor, Yamaha will be present at the event with both personnel and product. The Yamaha demo fleet, which includes Supersport and Hyper Naked Sportbike models, will be present at Rally headquarters, Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge, throughout the event. Attendees will have the opportunity to test a wide range of new Yamaha motorcycles along with priority status when signing up for demo rides.

“Women are a key part of the motorcycling community and their numbers continue to grow,” said Steve Nessl, Motorsports Marketing Manager for Yamaha Motor Corp., USA. “We’re excited to come on board as Women’s Sportbike Rally’s presenting sponsor. This event provides a wonderful culture of camaraderie while also promoting safe riding, advanced skills and use of protective equipment.”

Registration for the WSR East Rally is currently available online for $40 and will increase to $50 for a “fashionably late” sign-up after August 9. All invited guests of a registered attendee, including men, are welcome to the event. Guest registration is $10 and must be connected to a female attendee.
