The Women’s Sportbike Rally was established in 2006 by two sportbike enthusiasts: Stephani McIntyre of Columbus, Ohio and Kiri Hunter of Cincinnati, Ohio. Though they had never met in person, online forums brought them together during the winter of 2005. They both recognized a gap in the women’s sportbike community and joined forces to create the first event the following August at Deal’s Gap.
For the Twisties
Also called the “Dragon,” Deal’s Gap is world famous for it’s 318 turns in 11 miles. Located in the Smoky Mountains near Robbinsville, NC, it has proven to be the perfect rally host for 11 years (and counting!). A second event was added in Big Bear to celebrate the Rally’s 10th anniversary. Nestled in the San Bernardino mountains of Southern California, our annual WEST event location offers up the same winding roads and wide open spaces we know and love back EAST.
In 2007, we announced charity support focusing on a very important cause: Melanoma Awareness and Prevention. Read about our founder’s battle with Melanoma HERE. We focused our support on the Tiffany Weirbach “Sportbikegirl” Melanoma Foundation and donated over $10,000 from 2007-2011. In 2012, with support from Tiffany’s parents, we shifted our support to The Skin Cancer Foundation and donate in memory of Tiffany.
For Sportbikegirls, by Sportbikegirls
Alongside Stephani, Dawn Chappell jumped onboard in 2008 and was a driving force as the EAST event coordinator through 2016 (Kiri has since moved on from motorcycling). Brittany Morrow joined the team to lead the WEST event in 2015 and 2016. She was named the new Director of the Women’s Sportbike Rally December 18, 2016.
The Rally welcomes ALL individuals, groups and clubs with a passion for performance motorcycles, including their guests (yes, that means men are welcomed). With so much variety in this growing, amazing community of riders, you can guarantee that those who attend are as diverse and unique as the sportbikes they ride.
We have always been and will always be a grassroots effort, a gathering designed for sportbike women and coordinated by sportbike women. We volunteer countless hours each year to create a meaningful event focused on collaboration, education and camaraderie. The Rally depends on our volunteers and donations from our amazing sponsors, product sales and registration fees – all are vital to the success of the events each year.
